With no change fees, you have the flexibility to change the date, time or location of your trip prior to departure. When changing your ticket, sometimes your new flight may cost more than your original flight. If this happens you would need to pay the difference in price to change your ticket.
As a reminder, Basic Economy tickets are not changeable. Delta is waiving Change and cancellation costs if you book your ticket by April 17, 2020, for travel until March 30, 2021. travelers can re-book or cancel Flights until December 31, 2022.

24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation Time
According to Delta’s risk-free cancellation policy, you may not only cancel any Delta ticket within 24 hours of booking but can receive a full refund at no additional cost too. This includes the basic economic rate, which in most cases is non-refundable. With a few clicks on the Delta website or app, you may cancel your flight at any moment throughout the 24 hours.
Delta’s PeaceofMind Purchasing waiver
All tickets bought before March 30, 2021, including basic economy rates, are eligible for the Delta Peace of Mind purchase waiver. This means you won’t have to pay any modification costs for the first year after your purchase. If you need to cancel your flight, you can get an eCredit for a new ticket that is good for one year from the date of purchase.
Change Costs for Domestic and International Tickets
The permanent abolition of change fees and re-credits on tickets booked for travel to the United States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands was one of Delta’s most important recent changes. This cost is also waived for overseas flights departing North America, including SkyTeamo and codeshare partners’ flights. However, differences in tariffs will apply. On the other hand, Delta airlines have not included basic economy fares are not included since they cannot be returned or altered.
The Delta redemption charge for booked tickets was formerly $200 per ticket. This is an interesting customer-oriented amendment that is still going strong, providing customer’s greater flexibility than ever before.
Tickets booked after March 30, 2021
Standard rules apply to all other tickets booked after the Peace of Mind Delta waiver expires. Furthermore, after the 24-hour risk-free cancellation period, flyers will not be able to modify any basic economy tickets.
Delta Change Flight Process
For an Award Ticket
Passengers with award tickets can modify their flight reservations; however, travelers must make adjustments at least 72 hours before the scheduled departure. This category has a $150 change charge, which is waived for Diamond and Platinum Medallion members.

Step 1: Find Your Confirmation Number
You can use the confirmation number from your original booking to search for your trip on delta.com.
In Your Email Inbox
Search for “Your Flight Receipt” and locate the email that applies to the trip you want to change or cancel.
You will find your confirmation number in the top section of the email, just below the Delta logo and your name.
Step 2: Find Your Trip
Go to My Trips and locate your trip using your name and confirmation number, credit/debit card number, or ticket number from your Flight Receipt email.
Step 3: Modify Your Flight
Once you have located your trip, on the Trip Details page, click the "Modify Flight" button. Select whether you would like to start a flight change or flight cancellation. From there you will be taken step-by-step through options for changing or canceling your flights. Rest assured, no changes or cancellations will be final until confirmation. Change fees will be waived for eligible tickets.
Step 4: Begin the Flight Change or Cancellation Process
Change a Flight
Once you have selected “Start Flight Change,” you can choose the flights you would like to change and view new flight options. The value of the original flight will be applied toward the cost of the new ticket. You will see this credit reflected in the final amount due before you complete the change and view your confirmation.
If your new flight costs less than your original flight, the difference would be issued to you as a Delta eCredit. If your new flight costs more than your original flight, you would need to pay the difference in price to change your ticket.
Cancel a Flight
Once you have selected “Start Flight Cancellation,” you will be taken through the cancellation process. Before the cancellation is final, you will have the opportunity to check your flight details and confirm that you would like to cancel.
You will be issued either a Delta eCredit or a refund to the original form of payment depending on your ticket type and circumstances of cancellation.* In some situations, you will be issued an eTicket.

A cancellation charge will apply for Basic Economy tickets in most cases and will be deducted from the eCredit value. Excludes tickets issued for travel originating in Mexico, which cannot be canceled or changed. For tickets issued for travel originating in Korea, tickets will be refunded to original form of payment after deducting the cancellation charge. For tickets issued for travel originating in Europe, the cancellation charge is €150. For tickets issued for travel originating in Africa, Middle East and India, the cancellation charge is $199.
